Module 2: Professional Learning Network (PLN)
Professional Learning Networks (PLN's) bring the world into the classroom and bring your classroom out into the world. PLN's are a characteristic of connected teachers and are essential to creating a rich support system of fellow educators. Teachers of various backgrounds and strengths can look to their PLN for lesson plan diversification, behavioural management approaches, cultural understanding, and communication with classroom stakeholders (students, parents, co-teachers).
Twitter is a valuable platform to create a PLN. Users can quickly generate nodes to strengthen their network and hashtags simplify the search for relevent discussion threads. The character limit encourages to-the-point descriptions, and promotes Twitter as a conduit to other PLN platforms, like blogs and teaching resource forums. I will be using Twitter as part of my multi-platform PLN. You can follow me @Garrett_Edu and become part of the global classroom!
For more on the importance of Twitter in a multi-platform PLN see Clint LaLonde's article in eLearn Magazine.
