Module 6: Technology in Alberta Schools
The use of technology as a teaching tool is an expectation of all teachers in Alberta:
One of the available tools that can be used to enrich learning experiences is the SMART board. An effective SMART board lesson allows for interactivity between the students and the information they are to learn, and fluidly integrates learning and technology rather than forcing technology into the lesson.
For this module I created a SMART board lesson from scratch for the Spanish 30-3Y curriculum. My lesson is an interactive vocabulary quiz that uses the accept/reject feature of SMART Notebook. I have also included a number of tabs on the bottom of the lesson screen that students can pull up for additional information on the word that they have to match to the corresponding public domain image. Please take a look at my SMART board lesson below:
According to Policy Direction 3: Professional Learning of the Learning and Technology Policy Framework (2010) "Digitally confident teachers...are well prepared to use technology and digital resources innovatively and effectively for learning, teaching, leadership, and administration"
For a closer look, here's a screencast of the lesson layout in the SMART Notebook software:
