Module 4: Copyright and Intellectual Property
Intellectual property refers to a non-physical objects to which one can claim ownership.
Copyright refers to the legal ownership of an original work (a piece of intellectual property), and how that work can be used.
With the advent of the internet, it is difficult to determine what is covered by copyright and what is part of the public domain. It is important for students and teachers to understand copyright law and how it applies to them. This includes becoming familiar with the variety of copyright licenses established through Creative Commons and what they mean in terms of how a work can be used.

The Copyright symbol means that the work is protected against anykind of reuse without the permission of the creator.

The Creative Commons symbol means that the work can be used without permission, as long as all other license parameters are followed.

The Attribution symbol means that work can be shared without permission as long as the original creator is credited.

The No Derrivative Works symbol means that the work can be reproduced or distributed as long as it is not changed in any way.
The Non-Commercial symbol means that the work cannot be used by anyone other than the creator for any commercial purpose.
The Share-Alike symbol means that the work can be altered only if it is distributed under the same license as the original work.
The Public Domain symbol means that the creator waives all rights to the work and that the work can be used without permission as part of the public domain.

In this module we were asked to create an infographic outlining some key points on copyright. I decided to use easel.ly for this project in order to broaden my knowledge of infographic tools and to take advantage of the professional-looking templates. My infographic was created with a target audience of grades 10-12. You can access my infographic by clicking here, or click the link below. An embedded copy of my infographic can be seen, below.
